Kandal is a wedge serif design with some old style characteristics. It follows the weight scheme typically used for slab-serif typefaces, where the contrast between the thick and thin strokes remains relatively constant as they get thicker. Its proportions are rather narrow compared to other serif typefaces, especially the caps. The italic follows a modern cursive style of construction. The name comes from the name of a small town in Norway where some of my ancestors were from. It rhymes with “bundle.”
