Letters from Sweden
Kumla Skofabrik was built 1912 in Kumla, a nice little town just south of Örebro and 218 km from Stockholm. In that era Kumla was the epicenter of Swedish shoe manufacturing. There have been more 140 shoe factories in Kumla, but over the years the number has dwindled to five.
On the front side of Kumla Skofabrik, its name is spelled out in capital letters from 1920. These letters have been the inspiration for our typeface, Kumla. Nobody knows who drew the original letters on Kumla Skofabrik, but we dedicate this typeface to that craftsman.
Kumla is Letters from Sweden’s first release in the “Fabrik Suite” – a project inspired by Swedish industry, factories and harbours.
