Totally Gothic started from a bitmap font. In the early computer days, aliased bitmaps were state of the art, and inspired much experimentation. One of these experiments began as a bitmapped blackletter font, which was not so interesting in itself. But when we applied autotraced PostScript outlines around the bitmaps, several surprising shapes were generated. The essence of those forms became the basis for the Totally Gothic design.
