The Italian Plate super family is 341 weights and styles that extracts decades of Italian typeface design. The original No1 is based on a study of Italian number plates from the 60‘s, and inspired by the round and condensed profile and characteristic of that period. The elliptical upwards shape as basic design pattern, the equal stem width and the straight terminals across styles is what defines the Italian Plate super family. No1 Expanded is an airy and full-bodied typeface, with a very open and complaisant look. The soft angles address the original purpose, where the typeface had to work with metal embossing. A clear difference in the silhouettes and the open spaces meet the need for legibility from a distance. The open spaces and round shapes on the letters such as 'a', 'c', 'h', 'o' and 'q' widen the type, giving it a generous and friendly texture with a nice legibility. The complete super family goes from No1 to No7 in a mix of various type classes and widths – all in 10 weights with corresponding Italics and loaded with alternatives.
