The Italian Plate super family is 341 weights and styles that extracts decades of Italian typeface design. The original No1 is based on a study of Italian number plates from the 60‘s, and inspired by the round and condensed profile and characteristic of that period. The elliptical upwards shape as basic design pattern, the equal stem width and the straight terminals across styles is what defines the Italian Plate super family.
In this Extra Condensed version of No2, the design is pushed to the absolute limit with the width being compressed to the bare minimum. The original look is maintained, but has acquired edge through the sharpening of its endings, whilst the space consumption is reduced significant through an immense tightness of the design. Since the weight has a major impact on the width of the typeface, there is a large span between the Ultra Light and the Black, offering a wide variation in expression. Extra Condensed is always good for use in titles and headlines because of the visual impact that the narrowness creates.
The complete super family goes from No1 to No7 in a mix of various type classes and widths – all in 10 weights with corresponding Italics and loaded with alternatives.
