Republic PLTY is a gothic grotesque with a straight and confident look. The width is slightly condensed, the x-height tall and the spacing tight which save space and gives it a solid and convincing tone of voice. Even though the texture is tight and rather black the legibility is maintained thanks to the open bowls that also narrows when joining the stem. It can therefor serve for headlines as well as bodytext where the space is limited, but still has high expectations to legibility. The personality is not least formed by the angled ascender tip on lower case b, t, l, d and h as well as details such as the upright ear on the doble story g. Together they creates a balance in the overall texture where the typeface strives upwards but remain grounded.
